So this casket. Yeah. We started making it back in 2016. Or maybe it was 2015? I'd have to check. Somewhere around there.
Anyway. A funeral director from Ohio called us. Small town. I'm not gonna say which one-doesn't matter. He said, "Can you build something like the old ones? You know, from the 80s? Solid oak. Nothing fancy. Just sturdy." And we said sure.
So we did.
The oak? Mostly from Missouri. Sometimes Kentucky. Depends on who gives us a better price that month. We look for boards at least three-quarters of an inch thick. That's not some marketing line-that's literally what you need if you don't want the thing to feel cheap. I've picked up caskets with half-inch walls before. You tap the side. Sounds hollow. Feels wrong. Ours doesn't do that.

The finish. Three coats of varnish. Sand in between each one. Nothing special. But here's a real story. About six years ago-maybe 2018?-a church in Indiana had one of our caskets sitting up front for four days. It was hot that week. Humid too. The varnish? No clouding. No peeling. Honestly, I was a little surprised myself. But that's just how it works out with this finish.

Custom changes? Not really on this model. Most people want it exactly like this. But every now and then somebody asks for a different interior color. Dark blue. Burgundy. We can do that. No big deal.
Who actually buys these? Small funeral homes. Mostly in the Midwest. Some in the South too. They keep one or two in the back. When a family walks in and says, "Give us a real oak casket. Nothing modern," that's when they grab ours.
Price? Look. Oak isn't cheap. Everybody knows that. So it's not a budget thing. But you're also not paying for some fancy brand or a shiny showroom. You're paying for thick wood. Real wood. And a casket that actually looks right for a traditional service.
That's it. No fake wood grain. No gimmicks. Just oak. Period.
